Boys Will Be Men: Masculinity in Troubled Times

Today's politically correct crowd wants to recast males in a less dangerous, more sociable mold. But Richard Hawley, 25 years the headmaster at a Cleveland boy's school, argues that the history, literature and modern male behaviour don't support these 'reshaped' versions of masculinity. Instead, a durable masculine nature has survived through the years. He cites examples like King David, Hamlet, Holden Caufield and boys he's taught to show the heroic and tragic elements of the male experience. His conclusion - Rather than trying to remake the nature of masculinity, we should try to understand it better.
